Irregularities

The Romans Daniele Del Giudice was the publication of his new book ' Orizzonte Mobile' (2009) hailed by the media prematurely as a predetermined winner of the Strega Prize. However, the now missing from Del Giudice even denied rumors any foundation: ' Orizzonte Mobile' was never nominated, and the Strega Prize won in 2009 the Venetian Tiziano Scarpa with Stabat Mater.

History

The idea for this price was in the literary salon of Maria and Goffredo Bellonci. This was founded in 1944, shortly before the end of World War II, and was to meet the most famous Italian artists and writers of that time. The participants of these meetings were known as the Amici della Domenica. In 1947 it was decided together with Guido Alberti, a liquor manufacturer and owner of the company Strega, to organize a literary prize. The first winner was Ennio Flaiano uccidere for his novel Tempo di.

In the first years of the prize was awarded by visitors to the showroom, dates from this time also the today common name of the jury members. After the death of the initiators of the jury was extended to a total of 400 people.
