Strelasund

Geographical location

The Stralsund is an inlet of the Baltic Sea in Mecklenburg -Western Pomerania with very different widths. It separates the island of Rügen from the mainland in the Hanseatic city of Stralsund. The long and with an average of four meters unusually deep strait has an area of 64 square kilometers.

Formation

History

In Stralsund in 1362 and 1369 battles between the Danish king Valdemar IV and Navy of the Hanseatic League were held. As a result, the second battle in 1370 the Peace of Stralsund was closed.
