Stress–strain analysis

Strength calculations belong to the branch of statics (within the technical mechanics ) and are

  • Simple test specimens (eg, rods ),
  • Beams,
  • Beam structures,
  • Trusses,
  • Plates,
  • Membranes but also
  • Complex mechanical structures

Performed.

Strength calculations to help identify strong and weak stressed parts of a structure and thus lead to the optimization of components. They also serve as a computational proof of the safety of a structure. As a method for strength calculations are:

  • Graphical methods (eg Seileckverfahren, Cremonaplan )
  • Analytical approach (eg Bernoulli beam, Knight cal section method )
  • Numerical methods (eg finite element method (FEM) )

Strength calculations are concrete applications of the strength of materials.
