Stribog

Stribog is a Slavic god of uncertain jurisdiction, which is usually interpreted as a wind deity. He was next to Perun, Dažbog, Simargl, Mokosch and choir to the six " major gods ", their idols Prince Vladimir I. 980 had erected in Kiev.

His name is preserved in the Primary Chronicle, in a Russian translation of John Chrysostom from the 11th century and in the Igor song in which the winds that contrary to blow the army Igors and from the sea emit arrows be referred to as " grandson Stribogs ". Evidence of further spread of his cult are in the form of place names from Poland, Russia and the territory of the Elbe and Baltic Slavs.

The etymology is uncertain. The name is associated with the Iranian Sribagha ( the beautiful God ) in compound, an epithet of God the Creator Ahura Mazda, but also a Slavic origin is discussed.
