Strict
Strictly or strictly used in the mathematical sense to modify various terms. It indicates that a name in its exclusive meaning to be understood. One could say that it is the meaning which implies the other meanings.
The word is used usually in conjunction with inequalities - the terms " strictly less than " and " strictly greater than " mean "less than and not equal to" or " greater than and not equal to". A similar use is found in the comparison of numbers with zero - " strictly positive" and " strictly negative" mean "positive and equal to 0 " or " negative and equal to 0 ". In the context of functions is the adverb " strictly " used the terms " monotonous ", " rising " and change " descending ".
On the other hand, sometimes to the inclusive meaning of terms used. In the context of comparing the terms " non- negative", " no positive", " not rising " and " not low " are used to clarify that the inclusive meaning is intended.
Such use a name that helps to avoid possible ambiguities and confusions. If, for example, the expression "x is positive " is used, it is not immediately clear whether x = 0 mitgemeint, as some handle the term " positive" looser and think that x is not less than zero. Therefore, it is usually better to "x is strictly positive " for x> 0 and " x is not negative " for x ≥ 0 to write. A more accurate term such as " not negative" will never be " positive" used with in the wide loose sense, including zero.
Examples:
- Strict monotonicity
- Strict weak ordering
- Strict partial order
- Mathematical concept
