Stridsvagn m/40 L (L- 60 S / III)

The Landsverk L -60 was a light Swedish tanks from the 1930s to 1940s.

History

The light tank was a development on the basis of the early 1930s, developed by the German engineer Joseph Vollmer Landsverk L -10 ( Stridsvagn M/31 ). Vollmer had previously designed the first German tanks ( A7V ) and was at that time co-owner of the German automotive Construktionsgesellschaft (DAC). Until 1936 were constructed of these vehicles and engines and sold as a complete working drawing for a license payment of motor vehicle and engine factories. The AB Landsverk in Landskrona were Gutehoffnungshütte based in Oberhausen. Chief engineer at that time was the German engineer Otto flag and the L -60 introduced the first self-construction as a tank of AB Landsverk dar. The Landsverk L -60 had a welded tub and sloping front armor plates. Its armament consisted of one 20 -mm cannon and a machine gun. The combat vehicle was exported in three copies to Ireland. The Irish army put the tank one until the late 1960s. A copy was delivered in 1937 to Austria. In Hungary, the L -60B was produced in license and adapted by MÁVAG to 38M Toldi. The L -60 was comparable in terms of its armament to the German Panzerkampfwagen II.

Use in Sweden

The Swedish Armed Forces introduced the improved version of L -60 SI as a Stridsvagn M/38 ( Strv M/38 ). Further improvements led over the Stridsvagn m/39 ( m/39 Strv ) for Stridsvagn m/40 ( m/40 Strv ). The total of 216 tanks were used in the companies with light tanks in the tank brigades to 1957.

Use in the Dominican Republic

Twenty vehicles Stridsvagn m/40L in 1960 sold to the Dominican Republic where they were in the service until the mid- 1970s.

Varieties

As variants of L -60 emerged, with extended tub that Flakpanzer Landsverk L -62 Anti II, the Luftvärnskanonvagn fm/43 ( Lvkn fm/43 ) and the Luftvärnskanonvagn 42 ( Lvkv 42). The L -62 was associated with a 40 -mm Bofors 40 Einzelflak ItK/38 armed in the open-topped turret, six of them were in Finland in 1942 he delivered. In Hungary, the L -62 was produced under license and adapted to 40M Nimrod. The Lvkn fm/43 possessed, also in open-topped turret, armed with a 40 mm Bofors Zwillingsflak m/36-43 and was introduced in 1947 with a quantity of 17 vehicles at the Swedish Armed Forces.
