The Stridsvagn m/42 ( m/42 Strv ) is a Swedish tanks from the 1940s.

History

The Stridsvagn m/42 was developed from the Lake project, which the Swedish armaments factory had projected Landsverk for Hungary. Originally it included a tank of about 16 tons, which should be armed with a 47mm cannon and three MG.

The precursor was the Landsverk L -60 with a welded tub and sloping front armor plates. The armament of the L -60 consisted of a 20 -mm cannon. The L -60 was taken over by Hungary, and launched under the name 38M Toldi in the Hungarian army. In Sweden, it was used under the name Stridsvagn M/38 with a 37 -mm cannon. The L -60 was comparable in terms of its armament to the German Panzerkampfwagen II or the Russian T-60. Compared to Stridsvagn M/38 of Stridsvagn m/42 was equipped with a revised tower and with a longer and wider tub. The tank was equipped with six running rollers on each side.

1941 Panzer Commission was formed in Sweden, which should improve the organization and equipment of the armored units. These recommended, t introduce a new heavy tank type 20. To comply with this requirement as soon as possible, they resorted to the Lake project back at Landsverk. It was revised and strengthened and implemented as Lago II -IV. The January 1945 delivered by April 1943, 282 vehicles received at the Swedish Armed Forces, the m/42 designation Stridsvagn ( Strv m/42 ). The Stridsvagn m/42 was delivered to the companies with heavy tanks in the armored brigades of the Swedish army. The tank would have the Soviet and German counterparts can certainly stand up. The tank remained in this role until 1957 in the service, he was replaced there by Stridsvagn 81. The car with two motors ( versions TH and TV) were rebuilt in 1957-1960 Stridsvagn 74, then the Stridsvagn M/38, m/39 and m/40 replaced in the light companies of the armored brigades.
