The suit should the crew of the Buran take -off and landing and the astronauts would in an emergency to protect at a possible exit to the ejection seat. The suit is designed for a height up to 40 km and a speed of Mach 3. The Buran was fitted with ejector seats of the type K- 36rs. In the first flights of the U.S. space shuttle Enterprise and Columbia, this was also the case. After STS- 4, these seats have been removed.

The Strisch suit and matching ejection seat K36RB (Russian К36РБ ) were tested between 1988 and 1990 at five - offs Progress (Progress 38 to 42 ).

A modified type is used in the Russian Air Force on aircraft that can reach great heights, but are not equipped with pressurized cabins.
