The straw Austria GmbH (own spelling " STRAW " ) is an Austrian spirits producer. Their main brand is the spirit of straw which formerly known as straw national rum was sold. Colloquially, the product is also known as Stroh Rum.

The original Straw Klagenfurt company is following a management buyout in possession of Harold Burstein and thus again an independent company. The export share is about 66 percent, with the largest part to Germany, Scandinavia and the Benelux countries is delivered. The headquarters is located at the Strohgasse in Klagenfurt.

History

In 1832 Sebastian straw began commercial production of liqueurs and brandies in Klagenfurt. The company expanded during the 19th century, its product range and could at the Paris World Exposition in 1900 to accept the large gold medal. In 1926 you could fill about 100 different fires a total of 1.2 million bottles.

In 1969, Hanno Maurer-Stroh took over the fifth generation of the family business and was able to reach an international brand placement in the 1970s. In the years 1977 to 1980 the Klagenfurt location has been expanded with a new operating system.

Straw expanded from 1990 to 1992 through the establishment of subsidiaries in Hungary and Romania strongly in Eastern Europe, in the following years became straw for Austria's most famous brand in Germany. In 1994, 10 million bottles were filled with various fires.

A strategic alliance with the Linz company stock and the German spirits company Eckes in 1997 came the merger of straw and stick to the " Stock & straw GmbH", which was renamed in 1998 in " Stock Austria GmbH". After the takeover by the British company Stock Spirits Group Ltd.. in the summer of 2007 took place in August 2008, a management buy -out by the long -standing Managing Director Harold Burstein.

From the factory premises of the century in Klagenfurt Rosental Strasse ( " smelter " ) is today after an almost complete razing receive no more than a building, behind which are now the modern production facilities.

Products

The most famous product is straw straw stock 80 with 80 % alcohol content, it also exists with an alcohol content of 40 % vol or 60 vol %. By-products are straw Jagertee with 40 % vol or 60 % alcohol by volume and punch straw used as an additive to the corresponding hot drinks.

Production

Stroh Original is produced in accordance with EU Regulation EEC 1576/89 from hochrektifiziertem rum purchased from abroad and then in Austria with essences and flavors ( " Bonificateurs " ) is refined; also dye is added. Since 1 January 1999, the alcohol base of Inländerrums from the processing of sugar cane must be from what until then was not the case.
