Stroopwafel

A Stroopwafel ( Dutch for " syrup waffle " ) is a Dutch specialty. It consists of two superposed Teigwaffeln round with a diameter of about 10 cm, in the center there is a filling of caramel syrup.

The Stroopwafel was invented in 1784 in Gouda and is traditionally consumed with coffee, tea or cocoa. Often it is placed before the consumption of the cup so as to heat it and thus to liquefy the syrup. Today, to the microwave oven is also often used.

While Stroopwafels are outside the Netherlands produced industrially only generally and packaged based, they are often cooked in their country of origin to markets by street vendors. The break is also packaged in bags as " Snippers " sold. At Schiphol airport are Stroopwafels the most sold candy.
