Struve (crater)

164.34

Struve is the lava -filled remnant of a lunar impact crater. It is located in the western part of Oceanus Procellarum

The northern edge of the crater crosses the edge of the small crater Russell, so that both together form the shape of an eight (8). In the southeast lie the remains of the also lavagefluteten Eddington. Rather, in the southwest you will find the Balboa crater.

The edge bead of Struve is irregular high and is partially interrupted, so that connections to the surrounding Oceanus Procellarum are available. You can hardly see the actually round mountain range. There are several smaller impact sites in Struve's edge bead, most of them in the southwest. The secondary craters Struve G overlaps with the western part of the Struve - crater, and directly to the north, a breakthrough is to Oceanus Procellarum along the outer walls of Russell and Eddington.

Used to be called the formation Otto Struve, but because they wanted the other two members of the family of Otto Struve, who were also astronomers honor, called the area today only Struve.
