Stuart Freeborn

Stuart Freeborn ( born September 5, 1914 in Leytonstone, London, † February 5, 2013 in Leyton ) was a British artist.

Life

Stuart Freeborn was responsible for the design of masks and puppets in several Hollywood films. International reputation gained Freeborn for the first time with his work on Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey from 1968 His most famous pieces are the two Star Wars characters Yoda and Chewbacca. . His son Graham Freeborn was later artist.

1978 and 1984 received Freeborn for his participation in the first two Star Wars films, respectively the Saturn Award for Best Make-up. For the make-up to The Return of the Jedi, he was nominated for the 1984 BAFTA Film Award.

In addition, he was involved in the horror films The Omen, See No Evil, Spectre and wedding night in the haunted castle as a make -up specialist. In the science fiction films 2001: A Space Odyssey and the Superman movie series, he acted as a makeup artist and make- up specialist.

His niece is the makeup artist and film costume designer Michelle Freeborn.
