Student Peace Prize

The Student Peace Prize is awarded every second year to a student or a student organization that have made ​​a significant contribution to peace and to promote human rights. The prize is awarded on behalf of all Norwegian students from the Student Peace Prize Secretariat in Trondheim, Norway, which assembles a national nominating committee of representatives from Norwegian universities as well as an independent Peace Prize Committee, which awards the prize. The ceremony will take place Student Festival in Trondheim ( ISFiT ) within the International.

The Committee

In 2010, the Peace Prize committee consisted of nine members; four representatives of the National Union of Students in Norway ( NSO ), a representative of the Students ' and Academics ' International Assistance Fund ( SAIH ), and four non-student members.

The members of the Committee in 2011 include Ole Danbolt Mjøs, former Chairman of the Nobel Peace Prize Committee, Børge Brende, former economy minister and current CEO of the Red Cross in Norway, and the county and News spokeswoman for the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation ( NRK), Gro Holm.

Former committee members were, inter alia, the former prime minister and head of the Oslo Center for Peace and Human Rights Kjell Magne Bondevik, the director of the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs, Jan Egeland, former head of the International Peace Research Institute in Oslo ( PRIO ), stone Tonnesson, and former Foreign Minister and Managing Director of the Red Cross in Norway, Thorvald Stoltenberg.

Nominations

The Nominierungsrat accepted nominations for all interested parties. The nominees must be either students or a student organization. The Nominierungsrat consists of students from various Norwegian universities.

The price

In 2009, the winning student was awarded a prize of 50 000 NOK ( approximately € 5000) and an invitation to the awards ceremony as part of the International Festival in Trondheim ( ISFiT ). The winner or a selected replacement person makes a round trip through Norway, during which he meets human rights organizations and prominent politicians in selected cities.
