Student Selection and Placement System

Ögrenci Secme Sınavı abbreviated, OLS, is the university entrance exam in Turkey, which must be filed to obtain a place at one of the 131 universities in Turkey.

In 2005, 1.73 million candidates applied for university places 607 994 (2000: 1.41 million applicants for 414,647 places ).

The exam is organized by a department of the Turkish Higher Education Council ( YOK ), the ÖSYM ( " Öğrenci Secme Yerleştirme Merkezi " ), roughly comparable to the German Foundation for university admissions, formerly Central Office for the Allocation of Study Places.

The test was introduced in the 1960s, according to their own criteria previously selected the students from their universities.

OLS is held annually in mid-June. Within 195 minutes multiple-choice questions about the school curriculum of different subjects must be answered.

To prepare many students attend a " dershane " ( private crammer ).
