Studite Brethren

The Studitenorden ( Order code: MSU, for Monaci Studiti Ucraini ) is a Ukrainian Catholic monastic community.

The Archbishop of Lvov, Andrey Scheptyzkyj (* 1865, † 1944) founded this community in 1900 in Olesko in Lviv.

The name of the order derives from the holy Theodore the Studite, who was the first abbot of the monastery Studio. The first new monastery of Studi tenor Dens was founded in 1904 in Sknyliv. The Rule of the Order, which dates from 1906, consciously follows the monastic tradition of the Eastern Church of St.. Studite.

After the Ukrainian Catholic Church was forcibly incorporated in 1946 in the Russian Orthodox Church, the religious communities of the Studite could only continue to exist in exile. This changed in 1990, when the Ukrainian Catholic Church newly constituted.

Today, the Studitenorden has its center in Lviv. The best known members of the Order is the Ukrainian Major Archbishop Husar Ljubomyr.

The Studitenorden has been particularly committed to the apostolate of catechesis and education work of children and adolescents. In addition, children and adolescents from Chernobyl are included in the Retreat House in Jaremtscha annually. Other activities of the Order include the livestock, beekeeping and medicinal plants. The Lay of religious literature and also lead a workshop for church- religious art.

Daily life in Studitenorden is prayer of eight hours, embossed eight hours of work and eight hours of rest.
