Stylistics (field of study)

The Stylistics deals inter alia with the variations of the style of a language and its use. Both of any written texts are recognized as well by word of mouth. In the stylistics it is not dependent to differences in dialect, but to different applications of the language of the context or situation. So the style is within the same language, for example, depending on whether one leads a conversation among friends or whether it is a conversation between business partners or political opponents, whether it is teaching or a sermon in church.

Other topics of stylistics: the style of an author, a genre, a time when everyday language, the language of science, etc. In all cases, it may on one hand be to characterize the style or the other, to make comparisons style. Depending on what issues are important, it has more to do with a linguistic ( non-literary texts) or literary stylistics ( literary texts ). Here, when quantitative methods are used to obtain objective results possible, quantitative stylistics is operated, a discipline of quantitative linguistics or the quantitative literature. A method for the qualitative study of style provides the micro- function analysis.

To stylistics the study of word choice, intonation, rhythm, sentence structure and related properties are dependent, for example, by tradition, time period and genre.

A literary genre has a whole set of stylistic rules by which it differs from others.
