Styloid process
Styloid process ( dt styloid process, from Latin processus " extension "; Pl processus styloidei [ pʀotsesus ] ) is the anat. Name for a rod-shaped bony process.
In mammals do occur:
- Styloid process of temporal ossis at the petrous portion of the temporal bone ( fossa retromandibular ): He goes over to the stylohyoid ligament. This band of connective tissue in turn ends at the hyoid bone ( hyoid ) and serves its suspension. An over-long styloid process leads to the so-called Eagle 's syndrome ( Stylohyoid syndrome).
- Radial styloid process: blunt, the lateral- lower end of the radius (radius)
- Ulnar styloid process: blunt, at the lower end of the ulna ( ulna ): He is on the little finger side of the wrist above more or less out clearly and approach to the ulnar collateral ligament carpi.
