Su Tseng-chang

Su Tseng -chang (Chinese苏贞昌, Pinyin Su Zhenchang, born July 28, 1947 Pingtung County ) is a Taiwanese politician and Vorsitzdender the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP ). From 25 January 2006 to 12 May 2007, he was the Prime Minister of Taiwan.

Life

After studying law at the National University of Taiwan Su worked from 1973 to 1983 as a lawyer. During this time he was, together with the future President Chen Shui -bian to defenders in the so-called Kaohsiung Incident, a milestone the Taiwanese democracy movement. In 1986 he was one of the founders of the Democratic Progressive Party and was its general secretary in 1993 and 2005 party chairman.

Su was one of the candidates for the DPP candidate for the 2008 presidential elections, but withdrew his candidacy after he was defeated in the primaries by Frank Hsieh. After the defeat of the DPP in the 2012 presidential election Su took over on 30 May 2012 for the second time the post of party chairman.
