Suan Luang District

Suan Luang ( Thai: สวนหลวง, Royal Orchard ) is one of the 50 districts ( Khet ) of Bangkok, capital of Thailand.

Geography

The neighboring districts are from clockwise from the north: Bang Kapi, Saphan Sung, Prawet, Phra Khanong and Watthana.

History

Suan Luang was originally a part of a sub-district of Phra Khanong. As Phra Khanong was divided on 9 November 1989 into smaller districts, Suan Luang became part of the new Prawet District. On 14 January 1994 Suan Luang district received its own status, while next to the former Suan Luang subdistrict parts of the districts Prawet and Watthana were incorporated.

Attractions

  • Wat Maha Bud - Buddhist temple ( Wat ), who is known for the Mae Nak shrine on its premises. This shrine is dedicated to Mae Nak, the spirit of a deceased woman in childbirth. Many novels and movies, such as the successful " Ghost of Mae Nak ," were inspired by Mae Nak (see links).
