Subacromial bursa

The subacromial bursa is located between the shoulder joint and the tendon of the supraspinatus.

Function

The subacromial bursa has the function of a " sliding layer " between the supraspinatus ( of an important part of the rotator cuff is ) and the underside of the clavicle and the acromion.

Diseases

In the course of degenerative changes of the supraspinatus tendon there is a regular way to inflammatory changes of the subacromial bursa in the sense of ( aseptic ) subacromial bursitis. It bonds the overlay and will not come to their function. As a result, narrowed this overlay, at the same time the M. supraspinatus is thinner. The result is a " shoulder high level ", ie a narrowing of the Subacromialraums. In the course of M. supraspinatus tears ( rotator cuff ) and then his role of abduction in the shoulder joint no longer meet. For those affected, this condition is expressed in terms of chronic pain, and the image of the " Frozen Shoulder ", ie a painful inability to move the entire shoulder joint.
