Subaerial

As subaerisch (Greek under the air) or subärisch processes or developments are referred to the Earth's surface in the geosciences that occur in the open air.

In volcanology example subaerial lava flows can be distinguished from those that emerge under water ( subaquatisch ) or under glaciers ( subglacial ). They have, for example, another flow behavior and oxidize mostly reddish.

If volcanic ash is discharged into the air, their deposition is carried loosely at first, but influences of wind and slope. Underwater ( submarine ) it thickens, however, with the marine sediment to a Tuffit -like rock.
