Subaru XT

Subaru XT -6

The Subaru XT ( in other countries also known as Alcyone or vortex) is a sports coupe with all-wheel drive, which was offered in Germany from 1985 to 1991. With its wedge shape, it has a very low drag coefficient (Cd - value = 0.29). Technically, the vehicle is closely related to the Subaru L- series and builds largely on identical vehicle parts. In Germany, the XT remained an exotic car. He found a total of only 1056 buyers. Typical of Japanese coupes of the 1980s, the pop-up headlights.

Motor / drive

The Subaru XT in Europe only with a water-cooled four-cylinder OHC aluminum boxer engine with 1800 cc capacity with water-cooled turbocharger ( engine code EA82T ) and thus 100 kW ( first series from 1985 to 1987 without G- Kat ) (88 kW with G- Kat ). This engine was (with and without turbocharger ) also used in the Subaru L-Series. In other countries, the vehicle was also available without a turbocharger with all-wheel drive or front-wheel drive and a six-cylinder boxer engine with 2700 cc (for B.in the U.S. as the second series from 1988 XT -6 model) was, this version outside the U.S. not available.

When transmission is a five-speed manual and a four-speed automatic transmission was offered. In addition, the vehicle has permanent four-wheel drive ( second series). In the first series, he is to be activated manually.

The pneumatic suspension is height-adjustable. It descends in the raised position automatically from 80 km / h for security reasons (as well as partly in the Subaru L- series). Furthermore, it has ventilated disc brakes on the front axle, rear disc brakes easily. As more equipment is also a hill start help available. This is a roll-back brake when stopped on an incline and then maintains the brake pressure when the driver takes his foot off the brake pedal. The brake is released only when restarting. Through this system, a roll-back of the vehicle is avoided on slopes, thus facilitating the start-up.

Equipment

Another feature has the Subaru XT - like all Subaru vehicles - a great status in-dash screen, on which the most important everyday tasks are displayed on the vehicle in and: open doors, switched on (remote) light, activated all-wheel drive and more. In addition, the Subaru XT could also be ordered with digital valves.

Successor

In 1991, Subaru with the Subaru SVX again a coupe on the market. However, this was not comparable with the XT. It had a much more powerful engine, a far higher purchase price and therefore a different target group. The engine power of 169 kW, 162 kW later, from a 3.3 -liter six-cylinder boxer engine has been exclusively transmitted through a four-speed automatic transmission. Of the total of 25,000 produced SVX reached only about 850 copies in the German market.
