Subbiano

Subbiano is a municipality with 6310 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Arezzo, in Tuscany region of Italy.

Geography

The municipality covers 78 km ². It is located about 14 km north of Arezzo and 80 km southeast of Florence in the valley of the Casentino on the right bank of the Arno.

The districts include Calbenzano, la Casa Marga, Castelnuovo, Chiaveretto, Falciano, Giuliano, Montegiovi, Poggio d' Acona, Santa Mama, Savorgnano and Vogognano.

The neighboring municipalities are Anghiari, Arezzo, Capolona, Caprese Michelangelo, Castel Focognano, Chitignano and Chiusi della Verna.

History

First mentioned was the place on February 12, 1009. The name probably comes from the Latin sub Janum condita.
