Subcostalis muscle

The Musculi subcostales (Latin for "Under intercostal muscles "; singular subcostal musculus ) are a group of skeletal muscles of the wall of the thorax. They originate at the upper margin of the lower rib hump between ribs ( costal tubercle ) and rib angle ( costal angle ) and put in on the back side of the next higher rib.

Function

The Musculi subcostales brace the ribs and have an expiratory effect.
