Submandibular ganglion

The submandibular ganglion (from Greek ganglion " ganglion ", " leg over ", from the Latin sub " under " mandible " mandible ") is a parasympathetic ganglion in the lower jaw area. In animals, it is called a ganglion mandibular.

The submandibular ganglion is the switching station running on the second, post-ganglionic neurons of the lingual nerve ( hypoglossal nerve ) fibers, which are actually from the chorda tympani ( tympanic string line). After the switchover, the fibers run to the salivary glands of the lower jaw region ( sublingual glands and submandibular gland ). The parasympathetic nervous system stimulates the secretion of these glands.

By the ganglion also attract sympathetic fibers, but it only happen and know no change.
