Submunicipalities of Amsterdam

Districts in the municipality of Amsterdam made ​​since 1981. Previously, there were a total of 14, still exist since 1 May 2010, seven districts, divided into the districts of Amsterdam.

History

Already in the 18th century there was a " Burgerwijkindeling " (paraphrased: Classification of " civil districts " ) of 60 districts in Amsterdam. 1850 he produced the residents' registration office ( " Bevolkingsregister " ) and it came to a new classification of 50 neighborhoods that remained until 1909. The first municipalities created in 1981 with Amsterdam Noord and Osdorp. By 30 April 2010, there were 15 in which the district Westpoort did not have a district council or county council not because Westpoort an industrial area: is ( Dutch " Bedrijfsterrein "). The current districts were:

Amsterdam-Centrum, Amsterdam Noord, Bos en Lommerange, De Baarsjes, Geuzenveld - Slotermeer, Oost -Watergraafsmeer, Osdorp, Amsterdam Oud- West, Amsterdam Oud -Zuid Slotervaart, Westerpark, Zeeburg, Amsterdam-Centrum, Amsterdam Zuidoost and ( the fifteenth district) " Westpoort ".

The 14 municipalities had together 322 district representatives and 49 members of the district board ( Administratively ).

Chronological development

1981: The first two districts emerged with Amsterdam Noord and Osdorp.

1987: new districts with De Pijp, Watergraafsmeer Buitenveldert and Zuidost.

1990 (January): Extension with Westerpark, Oud -West, Oost Indische Buurt / Oostelijk - Docklands, Bos en Lommerange, De Baarsjes, South, Rivierenbuurt, Geuzenveld / Slotermeer and Slotervaart / Overtoomese Veld. In May, the Indian name Buurt / Oostelijk Have field have been changed in Zeeburg.

1998: there was a merger of the municipalities Rivierenbuurt and Buitenveldert. They together formed a part of Amsterdam -Zuid with the Prinses Irenebuurt and Zuideramstel. Amsterdam Oost and Watergraafsmeer was Oost / Watergraafsmeer. De Pijp and Amsterdam -Zuid got the name Amsterdam Oud -Zuid.

2002: Amsterdam-Centrum got a district council.

2004: Slotervaart / Overtoomse Veld was named Slotervaart.

Importance

In the German and Dutch language have different names or individual terms of other meanings. The term municipality with its own district council is called in Dutch " Stadsdeel " and " Stadsdeelrad ". Literally, this would be in the German language: " district " and " Stadtteilrat ". New districts with neighborhoods and districts

The seven new municipalities have together 199 district representatives and 35 board members. The laws and rules in the Netherlands, which are valid for the individual municipalities, also apply to the municipalities.
