Succinate

The term succinate salts and esters of succinic acid ( HOOC- CH2CH2- COOH ) can be understood. The Stoffwechselintermediat succinic acid is present in all living things before succinate anion.

The general formula of Succinate is R1OOC - C2H4 - COOR 2; Here R1 and R2 for metal ions such as (Na , K , Ca2 , Fe2 ) or stand for alkyl or aryl radicals. If only one of the two carboxy -H atoms are substituted, one speaks of Hydrogensuccinaten or hemisuccinates.

Use

Succinic acid esters with lower alcohols (eg, methanol) serve as an environmentally friendly, biodegradable solvents. Succinic acid esters are further used in organic synthesis in the Stobbe condensation. Some drugs ( eg, solifenacin ) are used as succinic acid salts therapeutically.

Calcium, potassium and magnesium succinate be used as a salt substitute.
