Sucha Beskidzka

Sucha Beskidzka [' suxa bɛs'ciʦka ] ( until 1965 only Sucha ) is a small town in the powiat Suski in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship, Poland. She is also the seat of the powiat Suski.

Geography

Sucha Beskidzka located 44 km south-west of Krakow, 39 km east of Bielsko- Biała located at the foot of the Beskydy Mountains on the river Skawa. The city has a surface area of 27.46 km ². 44 % of its territory is used for agriculture, 43 % is covered by forest.

History

The first written mention of Sucha Beskidzka dates back to 1405th

1939 counted Sucha Beskidzka 6200 inhabitants. In early September of the same year the city was occupied by German troops.

Since 1963, the city Sucha leads marked " Beskidzka " in the name. From 1956 to 1975, the city was home to the powiat Suski. In the course of administrative reform in 1975 came to Sucha Beskidzka 1998 Voivodeship Bielsko- Biała and lost its status as the county seat. This they got back on January 1, 1999.
