Suchart Chaovisith

Suchart Chaovisith ( Thai: สุ ชาติ เชาว์ วิ ศิ ษ ฐ; * 1940 in Chiang Mai, † October 22, 2009 in Bangkok ) was a Thai politician.

Biography

Suchart began his professional career in 1966, first as an administrative official in the finance department of the army of Thailand before 1972 he was an employee in the Ministry of Finance. In the following decades he worked in a number of key positions within the ministry and in 1993 Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry. Most recently he worked between 1997 and 2001 as Director General of the Department of Taxes within the public service.

His political career began then, when he was elected as a representative of the now banned party Thai Rak Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra as a member of the House of Representatives ( Saphaputhan Ratsadon ). Thaksin called him after the election of February 2001, first as Deputy Minister of Finance.

In 2003 he was Minister of Finance and then himself in a further reshuffle in 2004 Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand for some time.
