Sucroseoctaacetat is a non-toxic chemical compound from the group of derivatives of sucrose that tastes extremely bitter.
Properties
Sucroseoctaacetat is a hygroscopic colorless to beige solid, which is insoluble in water. Above 285 ° C it decomposes.
Production
Sucroseoctaacetat can be produced from sucrose in two ways: either by heating a solution of sucrose with acetamide and sodium acetate or by acetylation of sucrose with acetic acid and acetic anhydride in the presence of zinc chloride.
Use
Sucroseoctaacetat is used because of the bitter taste to spoil of industrial alcohol. For the same reason the connection is often insecticides, paper ( in market sectors including mice) and plastics ( toys) added to prevent otherwise injury or poisoning. In medicine it is used for children for the treatment of nails and similar chewing.
