Südbahn Class 23 (old)

The steam locomotive series SB 23 (referred to here for better differentiation SB 23 old ) were Freight Train Locomotives of the Austrian Southern Railway.

The precursor tracks of the Southern Railway had a very patchy stock of freight locomotives. Therefore, the Southern Railway had a six-coupled goods locomotive modeled after the French " Bourbonnais " redevelop. The series initially received the designation 23, 1864 29 The locomotive factory of StEG delivered in 1860 20, which is so well established that up in 1872 by the factory, the Wiener Neustadt locomotive factory and by Maschinenfabrik Esslingen total of 205 units were built.

Over time, of course there were several conversions: 1861 cab, in the 1880s, vacuum brake with silencer, Neubekesselungen, ...

After nationalization in 1924, the Austrian Federal Railways received (then BBÖ ) 47 pieces, which she filed as number 49. Yugoslavia referred to the locomotives, which it received as a series JDZ 124 In the Hungarian State Railways ( MÁV ) they were 332 and FS 193 in Italy

After the Anschluss the German Reichsbahn locomotives designated as 53.7111-7116. After the Second World War, ÖBB assumed by the remaining machines in Austria only one in their vehicle fleet, the 153.7114, but she already retired in 1953.

The BBÖ had sold in the 1920s, some machines at the Graz- Köflacher train ( TBI ). One of these, the TBI 671 is, with small modifications such as air brakes, thanks to a block action Stef ( Styrian railway enthusiasts ) still operational. It is with their built in 1860, was the longest serving steam locomotive in the world (apart from repair work ) without interruption in operation (The locomotive Fairy Queen of the East Indian Railway is 5 years older, but a longer time was temporarily decommissioned ). It is often put into operation and used for special rides.

In Hungary, the locomotives were on the routes Budapest - used Mohács - Nagykanizsa, Pécs - Barcs and Pécs. A locomotive ( SB 674 ) has been preserved and came under a Loktausches of the ÖBB workshop Miirzzuschlag to Hungary, after she had been there previously added to the original state. Now she stands in the Budapest Museum of Transport as the oldest preserved locomotive in Hungary.

The another example is in the Railway Museum Ljubljana and at the German Technology Museum in Berlin. These two locomotives are the oldest surviving original locomotive of the State concerned.
