Sudovia

The Suvalkija (also Sūduva in recourse to the root of the Sudovians ) is one of four ethnographic regions of Lithuania.

From 1994 to 2010 Suvalkija was divided to the administrative region Marijampolė and part of Alytus County. Until the First World War, was one of Suvalkiija also the areas around the eponymous town of Suwalki, Poland today.

The Suvalkija is a highly agricultural region due to relatively good soils.

The language spoken in this area Lithuanian dialect forms the basis for the modern Lithuanian.
