Suecia antiqua et hodierna

Suecia antiqua et Hodierna (Latin for: " The past and present Sweden " ) is a book with pictures of geographical objects from Sweden's period of greatness of the country.

The work contains 342 engraved plates (Vol. 1150, Vol 2 76, Vol 3 126 sheet printed after the table of contents. Panels themselves are not numbered. ) It was made by the architect Erik Dahlberg in the royal order. Dahlberg began work in 1660 and traveled through the various regions of the country where he made drawings of cities and historic buildings as well as various maps. The copper engravings were not always coherent with reality, as Dahlberg mitzeichnete planned changes, which were partly not at all. In addition, he often put people in the wrong scale in the drawings. Thus many of the buildings appear larger and more ostentatious than they really were.

For the engravings Dahlberg undertook the best qualified personnel from France and Holland. He traveled to monitor the work and even to Paris. Because of war with Denmark, the work was interrupted at the splendor band around 1670 for about ten years. When the architect died in 1703 the band was still unfinished. In 1720, began the first editions for sale and about ten years later, the first edition was sold out.

Later there was a large number of other conditions of which the last was in 1924.
