Sugar addiction

The term sugar addiction (English sugar addiction ) correlations between regular sugar consumption and signs of addictive behavior are discussed. The existence of a sugar addiction is controversial in science.

Scientific Research

There are currently over 160 studies examining a relationship between sugar consumption and addiction phenomenon. These studies, which have won for the most part their results of laboratory experiments with rats, provide inter alia the following signs of addiction in increased sugar intake out:

  • Binge eating
  • Drugs that triggered drug addicts in withdrawal symptoms, also did so with regard to increased sugar consumption

So found out about a study by scientists at Princeton University to Bart Hoebel 2008 that in the laboratory experiment, rats with regular sugar intake signs of addiction. Transferability of the results to the human organism is suspected it. This thesis is taken up outside of scientific discourse. That the result is transmitted to humans, doubt other scientific authors, such as David Benton. The results of the confectionery industry well received ( for example, by the Federal Association of the German Confectionery Industry ( BDSI ) ), without referring to the health consequences of increased sugar intake.
