Sugar Blue

Sugar Blue ( born December 16, 1949 in Harlem, New York City as James Whiting ) is an American blues harmonica player.

Life

James Whiting's parents were artists who appeared regularly at the Apollo Theater in Harlem. He got his first harmonica at the age of 10 years and already sixteen years he was part of Chicago's blues scene. In 1976 he moved to Paris where he came into contact with the Rolling Stones.

He was known among other things for his work with The Rolling Stones, Willie Dixon, Louisiana Red, Bob Dylan, Stan Getz, Ray Charles, Frank Zappa, Prince and other musicians. In 1985 he received a Grammy Award.

As Sugar Blue 1980 his first solo album brought out, he was already no longer unknown. His best known work is heard in the song Miss You by the Rolling Stones. As a result, the Rolling Stones Sugar Blue attracted added again and again.

Sugar Blue preferring their own ways to go, instead of being solid sideman for the Rolling Stones. He has regularly recorded albums of his own that are rooted in the blues, but often beyond its musical schemes. In addition, he is always received with other projects, engagements, for example with the group of Stan Getz.
