Sugarmill Woods is a census -designated place (CDP ) in Citrus County in the U.S. state of Florida with 8,287 inhabitants ( 2010).

Geography

Sugarmill Woods is affected by the U.S. Highways 19 and 98. The CDP is located approximately 25 km south-west of Inverness and about 80 km north of Tampa.

Demographics

According to the 2010 census, the then 8,287 inhabitants distributed to 4,772 households. The population density was 121.3 inh. / Km ². 95.0 % of the population were white, 1.8% African American, 0.2% Native American and 1.4% Asian Americans. 0.5 % were members of other ethnic groups and 1.1% in different ethnic groups. 3.6% of the population were Hispanic or Latino.

In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 61.6 % of all households lived in 12.4 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 70.4 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 2.08 persons and the average family size is 2.41 people.

11.7% of the population were younger than 20 years, 10.0% were 20-39 years old, 21.6% were 40-59 years old and 56.6 % were at least 60 years old. The median age was 63 years. 48.0 % of the population were male and 52.0 % female.
