Suginami, Tokyo

Suginami (Japanese杉 并 区, -ku ) is one of the 23 city wards of Tokyo, capital of Japan.

Geography

With an area of ​​34.02 km ² Suginami is eighth in the 23 districts of Tokyo.

By Suginami the rivers flow Kanda, Zenpukuji and Myōseiji.

Suginami is bordered to the east by the municipalities Shibuya and Nakano, on the north by the Nerima Ward, on the west by the cities of Mitaka and Musashino, and on the south by the Municipality of Setagaya.

History

It is said that in the Edo period, the feudal lord Okabe planted along the road Ōme - Japanese cedars (Japanese sugi ) to. The trees were the limit of the dominion. The cedars -Allee (Japanese Suginami ) existed for the Meiji period no longer, but the name of the village Suginami has been preserved. Suginami has developed into a city, and in 1932 was incorporated into the city of Tokyo as a municipality.
