Sulawesi Barn Owl (Tyto rosenbergii )

The Sulawesi Barn Owl (Tyto rosenbergii ) is a species of the family of barn owls. The species occurs in two subspecies exclusively on Sulawesi.

Features

The Sulawesi Barn Owl reaches a body length from 41 to 50 centimeters. So that it reaches the size of the Neuhollandeule, but has more transverse bands on their wings, and has also to their whitish veil a reddish brown border. The body top is brownish-gray with large reddish brown color areas and with scattered spots, white on the bottom half and top are black. On underside of the body is pale yellow with brown spots. The feet are unusually strong. In their area of ​​distribution is the only other Schleiereulenart before the Minahassa Barn Owl, which is, however, significantly smaller with a height 27-31 centimeters.

The habitat of Sulawesi Barn Owl are rain forests, wooded areas and semi-open landscapes. It also occurs in agricultural areas and near human settlements. Your altitudinal distribution ranges from the lowlands up to the height of 1,100 meters above sea level.

The food spectrum of this nocturnal owl is not fully investigated. Occupies are based on the Gewölles among other rats and voles. Probably include a number of small vertebrates to prey spectrum. About the reproductive biology little is known. The inventory number is not determined. But is considered a common species on Sulawesi that suffers not so much under the deforestation that takes place on these islands.
