Sulawesi soft-furred rat

The soft - Sulawesi rat ( Eropeplus canus ) is a rodent species from the group of Altweltmäuse ( Murinae ).

Sulawesi soft rats reach a body length between 20 and 24 centimeters, added a 21 to 31 centimeters long tail. The eponymous soft, long fur is up to 45 mm long, it is colored light gray on top and gray-brown on the bottom.

These rodents are on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi endemic, where they inhabit mountainous regions in the middle part. Their habitat are rainforests in 1800-2300 meters above sea level. Presumably, they usually stay on the ground and feed on green plant parts.

There are very few sightings of Sulawesi soft rat, total the style but could be more common than indicated by the few finds. The IUCN lists them as 'vulnerable' ( vulnerable ).

Systematically, the species is classified within the Altweltmäuse in the Pithecheir group.
