Sulfotep is a chemical compound from the group of Thiophosphoric.
Production and representation
Sulfotep can be obtained by reaction of tetraethyl pyrophosphate with sulfur or hydrolysis of Diethylchlorthiophosphat.
Properties
Sulfotep is a flammable colorless liquid with a garlic-like odor, which is very slightly soluble in water. It is an inhibitor of acetylcholinesterase (AChE ) inhibitor. They can also be produced in trace amounts as an impurity during the production of other pesticides. Production in the EU amounts to about 1000 tons per year.
In animals, there is reduced, inter alia, O, O- diethylphosphorothioate.
Use
Sulfotep is used as an insecticide and acaricide. It is also used in smoke -generating systems for greenhouse fumigation. Sulfotep was marketed in 1944 by Bayer AG. The connection was approved in the GDR until 1994 and 1971-2005 in Germany.
Sulfotep is not included in the list of permitted in the European Union plant protection agents. In Germany, Austria and Switzerland, no plant protection products containing this active ingredient are allowed.
Safety
Sulfotep is highly toxic. It is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, the lungs, the outer mucous membranes and skin and excreted.
