Sulkhan Tsintsadze

Sulkhan Tsintsadze (Georgian სულხან ცინცაძე; born August 23, 1925 in Gori, † September 15, 1991 in Tbilisi ) was a Georgian composer and cellist.

Life

Until 1945 he studied cello at the Tbilisi Music School as the Conservatory until 1953 then moved to the Moscow Conservatory, where he also finished composition. Already during his studies, he began his career in the Georgian State String Quartet. His first compositions were three miniatures for this quartet, which were based on Georgian folk songs. They were an immediate success. From 1966 he was a lecturer at the Tbilisi Conservatory, which he headed from time to time. In 1973 he became professor of composition. He was also very active in the Georgian Composers' Union. The Georgian State String Quartet, the Georgian Competition for Chamber Orchestra and Music School Gori bear his name today. Zinzadses music is marked by the Georgian folklore and music of Shostakovich. Zinzadses son Irakli is also a composer.
