Sultan Air

Sultan Air was a Turkish charter airline, which has its operations in 1993.

Chronicle

The Sultan Air was founded in July 1989 by the Turkish private investors, with the participation of the Swedish airline Transwede. From the Transwede two aircraft of type Sud Aviation Caravelle were taken, with which the company started flight operations on August 2, 1989. In late 1989 and early 1990, the fleet was expanded by two Boeing 737-200. In its first year, promoted the Sultan Air 33 083 passengers. The effects of the Second Gulf War led from August 1990 to sharp declines in the tourism sector, one of which in particular Turkey was affected. In September 1990, all tourism charter flights have given up and returned the leased aircraft to the lessor. The following month, the Transwede sold its stake in the company. With two remaining Boeing 737-200, the Sultan Air flew up to the end of 1990, international charter services for migrant workers and then ceased its activities due to the low utilization first one completely. The aircraft were the subsidiary VIP Air newly founded passed in early 1991 and used within Turkey. The international flight operations began again after the end of hostilities in April 1991. In the fall of 1991, the VIP Air was re-integrated into the parent company. In 1992, the company transported 464 336 passengers. From the end of 1992 supplemented three Airbus A300 -B4 and two Boeing 737-300 fleet. During peak season, additional machines of the Tupolev Tu -154 ( in 1992), Boeing 727-200 and Lockheed L -1011 -1 ( in 1993 ) were used. Due to security concerns, the Turkish Ministry of Transport of the Sultan Air withdrew the operating license in November 1993. The company was liquidated in the same year.
