The University of Education Sultan Idris ( Mal. Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris, Eng. Sultan Idris University of Education ) ( UPSI ) in Tanjung Malim, in the state of Perak is a pedagogical state university in Malaysia. It was founded in 1922 and is named after Sultan Idris, 28th Sultan of Perak from 1889 to 1916.

History

Considerations for a separate College of Education in Malaysia, there were already at the beginning of the 20th century. At the instigation of the British orientalist Richard Olaf Winstedts the decision was taken in 1916, a Teachers College to set up and started in 1919 with the construction work in Tanjong Malim. The site was chosen because of the fertile soil in this city, because at that time there was a not inconsiderable part of the curriculum of agricultural subjects. 1922 then was opened with 120 students and twelve teachers the Sultan Idris Training College (SITC ). The first degrees were awarded in 1924. In the next few years, the College grew steadily and in 1957 the name was changed into Malay in Maktab Sultan Idris Perguruan ( MPSI ). The first female students were taken in 1976 and 1987, the name of the institution in the Institute Perguruan Sultan Idris Engl. Sultan Idris Teachers Institute IPSI changed. With the new status as an institute new courses were introduced and awarded degrees in cooperation of Universiti Pertanian Malaysia today Putra University. In 1997 the Institute was awarded the status of a university and its present name. The study began operating as a university in the same year with 350 students

Organization

The university is headed by the Vice-Chancellor and Deputy Vice - Chancellors more. The Chancellor and the Pro- Chancellors are honorary positions and are staffed by well-known personalities, while the full-time management of the University is headed by the Vice-Chancellor.
