Sultone

Sultones are a class of chemical compounds containing organically bound hexavalent sulfur and oxygen, which can be regarded as a cyclic ester of a sulfonic acid. Their analogues in the carbon chemistry are the lactones. The name comes from sultone sulfonic acid lactone ago. Sultones containing the ring member, -S ( = O) 2 -O-. Sultones, in particular the 1,3- propane react, alkylating and are potent carcinogens.

1,3 - propane sultone is referred to in Annex II, ranked # 6 of the Ordinance on Hazardous Substances ( Ordinance on Hazardous Substances ) as especially dangerous carcinogen and must be produced or used in closed systems.
