Súlur

View from Súlur on Eyjafjörður

The mountain Súlur is located in the north of Iceland. His two peaks rise on the southwest over Akureyri. He is a member of the extinct volcano Central Kerling adjacent to him, and 1213 m high. The lower of the twin peaks reached in 1144 m height.

The mountain rests on a basalt base of about 500 meters thick. The peak is, however, of glowing rhyolite.

The mountain range that connects the Kerling with the Súlur, nor does some other lower peaks, as Litli and Stóri - Krummi ( engl. the Small and the Large Raven ). Some glacier remnants can still be found in Kvarnárdalur, a high valley below the Kerling.

Below are the mountain huts of the Iceland Touring Association. The mountain is not difficult to commit. Paths lead up from Akureyri.
