History

In a gypsum quarry north of Sulzheim an early-medieval burial ground was found. An excavation, which was carried out in 1964, uncovered a number of rather poor graves, dating from around 600. As part of the Prince-Bishopric of Würzburg (with some rights, but also of the monastery reverb) Sulzheim was secularized in 1803 in Bavaria's favor, then leave in the Peace of Pressburg 1805, Archduke Ferdinand of Tuscany to form the Grand Duchy of Würzburg, with which it fell in 1814 to Bavaria.
