Sum (country subdivision)

A Sum (Mongolian Сум ) is a unit of territorial organization in the mongolischsprachigen areas of Mongolia, China, and Russia.

Mongolia

In Mongolia, the sum are the second highest level of regional management structure. They are divided into Bag. Several Sum form a Aimag. There are 331 Sum in Mongolia. A sum is comparable to the German administrative unit of the district.

A Sum has on average 4,200 km ² in area and about 5,000 inhabitants. The household income of a sum amount to an average of 120 million Tugrik (approx. 120,000 euros ) per year and consist of 90 % of government subsidies.

China

Russia

In Russia, Sumon are the second highest level of the regional administrative structure of the Autonomous Republic of Tuva. In the Republic of Buryatia the same level Somon means. The two are equivalent sowet the Russian name Selski, also briefly Selsowet (Russian Сельский совет, Сельсовет; " village soviet ").
