Suma-ku, Kobe

Suma -ku (Japanese须 磨 区) is a municipality ( ku ) of Kobe.

Geography

The district in the west of the city extends along the coast of the Bay of Osaka, the land rises behind the coast immediately partly steeply.

History

The earthquake in Kobe in 1995 had also taken Suma hard. Close to the sea many traditional wooden houses have been destroyed.

Traffic

Just as in the neighboring district Tarumi -ku to the JR Kobe Line, as a stretch of San'yo Main Line of JR West, the main line of San'yo Denki tetsudō, but also the national road number 2 on the seafront along tracks.

Attractions

Suma is widely known for his popular among youngsters sandy beach of the park Suma Kaihin Kōen (须 磨 海 浜 公园), the nähestgelegenen the downtown area. The beach is ideal due to the water quality, however, except in high summer rather walks and beach parties etc. as for a swim.

In the immediate vicinity is the city's Aquarium of Suma, which opened in 1957 and extended in 1987 Suma Kaihin Suizokuen (须 磨 海 浜 水族 园).

Other attractions and facilities are:

  • The temple Suma -dera (须 磨 寺),
  • The park Suma Rikyū Kōen (须 磨 离宫 公园) with adventure trail for children,
  • The Sports Park Kobe Sogo Undo Kōen (神 戸 総 合 运动 公园) with baseball stadium.

Education

In Suma -ku is the wife Kobe University.
