Sumitomo Corporation

Sumitomo Shoji K. K. (Japanese住友 商 事 株式会社, Sumitomo Shoji Kabushiki - gaisha; . engl Sumitomo Corporation) is a Japanese conglomerate. As one of the major traditional trading houses ( sogo shosha ) it is among the 30 largest companies in Japan and is the core of the Sumitomo Group.

The company was founded in 1919 as Osaka Hokko K. K. (大阪 北港 株式会社) and was originally founded in the areas of real estate, land reclamation and development in the port of Osaka active. 1944 was created by the merger with Sumitomo Building KK Sumitomo Tochi Komu K. K. (住友 土地 工 务), a year later, the Nihon Sangyo KK Kensetsu (日本 建设 产业). After the Second World War began the transition to trading house, many of the traded products are produced by independent companies or subsidiaries of Sumitomo Group.

Today, Sumitomo Shoji has 148 offices worldwide in 65 countries and 898 subsidiaries. Around 38 % of income in the financial year 2006/ 07 ( April 1 to March 31 ) in Germany achieved a further 21 % in the rest of Asia and fourth in the Americas. The largest contributions to consolidated earnings contributed with 14 % the divisions metal ( Kinzoku ) and transport and machinery ( Yusoki / Kenki ).
