The Company K. K. Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group (Japanese株式会社 三井 住友 フィナンシャル グループ, Kabushiki - gaisha Mitsui Sumitomo Finansharu Gurūpu, Eng. Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group, Inc.) is a financial services company in Japan and the third largest bank in Japan. The company's headquarters is located in Chiyoda, Tokyo. The company is part of the Sumitomo Group.

History

On 1 April 2001 merged the Sakura Bank (founded 1876) and the Sumitomo Bank ( 1895) Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation ( SMBC ). On 2 December 2002, the SMBC founded the holding company of Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group ( SMFG ).

2005 Teisuke Kitayama became president of the company. 2006 20.322 people were employed in the Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group.

2008, SMFG supported the British Barclays Bank with a cash injection in the billions.

The Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group is categorized since November 2011 by the Financial Stability Board (FSB) as one of 28 " systemically important financial institutions" ( systemically important financial institutions). Therefore it is subject to special monitoring and stringent requirements on the level of equity.
